Descendants of Jotham S. Brown
This picture, taken in Greeneville in 1903, contains the descendants of John B. Brown (1829-1909). He was the son of Jotham S. Brown (b. c. 1805/9 TN – 1875), son of Sylvanus Brown (b. c. 1771 VA – 1845-49 TN). This photo compliments of the family archives of Bill J. Brown.

VanVactor Family
In 2011, descendants of Nelly VanVactor came to Greeneville to celebrate the placement of a Tennessee Historical Marker for Nelly VanVactor, “a free woman of color and early landowner in Greeneville.”
The Historical Marker is in front of the Public Library on Main Street.
Pictured at the Marker: Center: descendants Phoebe Layton and daughter Mary Layton, with Stevie Hughes, GCGS President. In attendance: State Representative David Hawk and Greeneville City Council Woman, Sarah Webster.
A dinner reception at the General Morgan Inn followed the Marker placement. Seated center: Phoebe Layton and Stevie Hughes. Standing: Don Miller, Mary Layton, Alice Loftin (Don’s wife).
